Pre Race Horse Trading - Jan 18

My first go at trading the horses per race.

Intense. A lot of concentration was required to watch the market and take in all the available information the Geek's Toy was giving me. I entered with pretty simple rules.

1) Don't enter the market unless I'm more than 50/50 on where the market was going to go
2) Be prepared to scratch immediately if the market moves in the opposite direction to where I expected
3) Be flexible on strategy to either scalp or swing as opportunities present themselves
4) Hedge out before in-play

I made 5 trades, 2 profitable, 1 loss and 2 scratch for 12% return.

I found myself being cautious (probably not a bad strategy) that meant I scratched trades when a tick or 2 was available to scalp. More importantly I missed swings of 10+ ticks by being 2 or 3 ticks below/above the bottom/top.

I had one scary moment where I was at the lowest matched bet point when the market moved trough by 7 ticks. What I thought had been a good position suddenly looked vulnerable, the market did though quickly bounce and I was able to hedge out for a small profit. I'm not sure how I would've felt with big stakes in that situation. That though, is why I'm starting with small stakes.

Not looking to make money at the moment, just to get experience and to minimise loses.

Overall, I'm happy with the first attempt but there is still a lot to learn.
